What is the “Winter Christian”?
It’s the endgame of Christianity.
What do we do when everything else fails; when comfort is lost; when tolerance is replaced by genocide; when we become fugitives and martyrs once again; when civilization turns itself over to the Man of Sin; when churches crumble and betray each other; when false prophets and Satanic wonders are everywhere? In this scenario, the Winter Christian carries out his mission by himself, against the world, no matter the cost.
To be prepared is the goal. Right now, we need to get real about what’s possible. Things are bad now, but the truly dark days have only appeared on the horizon. How many will renounce their faith when real tribulation begins? When the demonic conspiracy swallows up the last vestiges of global sanity and death is everywhere, will we get louder and more vigilant, or cower and hide? Will we beg for an escape and try to be friends with the Devil, or put on the full armor of God, take on the greatest challenge in history, and lay siege to the Gates of Hell that began 2,000 years ago with the proclamation of our Lord Jesus Christ? Surely we cannot turn back now, or count our lives as precious:
But I consider my life of no value to me, if only I may finish my course and complete the ministry I have received from the Lord Jesus—the ministry of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. (Acts 20:24)
We also cannot have fellowship with darkness:
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)
A Christian thought experiment
In terms of classification, the Winter Christian is an ongoing thought experiment. It asks tough questions by imagining severe possibilities, and ruminates on the hypothetical: “What if the Bible is 100% true, the world is fundamentally evil, and our generation will face the ultimate showdown with Satan’s endgame?”
In other words, this publication is not to be mistaken for journalism, nor even personal opinion. It is a Christian alternate reality-style world-building art project. Much like near-future science fiction movies, novels, and role playing games, it uses the power of art to pose a challenge to the audience, letting them decide how they would feel if it were true. It also demands: “Who do we need to become in order to face a reality that bleak, as believers?” Doing this allows us to think of a response, strategize, and get ready for whatever happens. The Winter Christian is the logical result of such a thought experiment.
