Something else to consider and something I heard on a podcast is that there have been rumblings and weird of a potential sale of Fox. Tucker, could have made the purchase unattractive as aPR nightmare. Anyone who purchased it would want to get rid of him but would look bad and make him a martyr in firing him or the gates and dealing with him indefinitely is not attractive. So there is the chance that firing him makes the network attractive for a buyer.
Whoever bought Fox would have the right to immediately fire Tucker on the spot, there's no logic to saying that they need to get rid of him first in order to get a buyer. In fact, one of the main reasons to buy a platform is to control who is featured.
Murdoch is willing to take a bath on Fox. His sons, as it turns out, will not get to run Fox. Murdoch wants to sell and there might be lawsuits waiting in the wings, not least from shareholders. But to make Fox palatable, appealing and marketable, he needs to sell as "clean" a station as possible. This is the reason Tucker was let go.
1) You have no evidence whatsoever that Fox is even being sold, or that "Murdoch is willing to take a bath on Fox", do you? Are you talking about Fox News, or the entire Fox corporation? Show sources, not just random rumors and conjecture.
2) Shares are plummeting due to Tucker being fired, and buying the company would be a negotiation, and the ability to hire/fire talent comes with the company. Firing the #1 host at the height of his popularity doesn't make anything "clean" or "marketable" in any world, it just throws the brand into disarray and turns off any buyers who would want to keep Tucker -- which any normal buyer would.
I'm not sure I agree with you — as, like you I imagine, we depend on news commentary re Fox being primed for sale. As to 2), unless you are deep within the power structures, you are again dependent on what is reported.
