I never saw his comment originally. I do miss quite a few comments if they're not on recent posts, unfortunately.

However, looking at it now, it's just more fairy tales. There is absolutely zero evidence that Gamaliel was the grandson of Hillel, it's just another fabrication -- or as they call it, "tradition". Look at the Jewish Encyclopedia entry for Hillel yourself:

https://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/7698-hillel

>Hillel was a Babylonian by birth and, according to a later tradition, belonged to the faimly [sic] of David (Lévi, in "R. E. J." xxxi. 202-211, xxxiii. 143). Nothing definite, however, is known concerning his origin, nor is he anywhere called by his father's name, which may perhaps have been Gamaliel.

So there's "nothing definite" about his origin, even though he is the most famous scholar in the rabbinic world, whom every single important issue of Judaism revolved around, and whom Jesus himself was simply a copy of? Nobody cared to ask what his family was, or how he came to become such an important scholar? And yet his "biography" (which is all "traditions" too) line up with Moses in a dozen convenient ways? Give me a break.

I think your conspiracy theory is baseless. The New Testament records Paul's testimony that he was taught by Gamaliel, Hillel's grandson. This same Gamaliel also counsels the Sanhedrin in Acts 5 not to persecute the Christians, lest they wind up fighting God. Likewise, the Gospels report many Pharisees having a positive opinion of Jesus, even if they weren't sure at the time whether or not He was the Messiah.

Hi Andrew apparently there is nothing to support a familial relationship between Gamaliel and Hillel upon which your assertion depends. Care to provide such ?
